Labrador Learning - Ace Starts Grade 1 at McCanns!

Meet Ace!

She's adorable AND smart! We'd like you to meet Ace, a 4-month-old Black Labrador Retriever. This is her first lesson of the Grade 1 program. When they start at an early age, it's easy for any dog to learn basic skills and manners. Watch Ace learn the first steps of her Grade 1 training from the handler's perspective.

Ken handled Ace for the first time in this video. This just proves that with the right information, any dog can learn good skills and manners. This video was shot with the GoPro Hero 4.

The World Loves a Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retrievers (labs) are one of the worlds most beloved breed of dogs. They are sweet and possess a great sense of humour. There are 3 main varieties of colour, Yellow (which can be almost white or close to red), Black and Chocolate. Labs typically love everyone at first sight, which can make them a handful if early manners aren't taught. They become large quickly and can easily knock over small children or even adults in their exuberance and excitement.

To learn what the benefits of early training are, check out our previous blog post The Cost of Waiting. Early training is ideal.

Grade 1 at McCanns

Your dog will learn life skills and manners in our extensive Grade 1 program. We take great pride in our programming, which has been developed from nearly 4 decades of coaching and training family pets. Skills taught at the Grade 1 level include:

  • Come the first time every time, even when distracted – a potentially life-saving lesson!
  • Sit while greeting guests
  • Not jump up on people
  • Sit and stay even when distracted
  • Lie down and stay even with distractions
  • Walk on a leash happily without pulling you
  • Play and then settle down on command

To learn more about the Grade 1 program, visit McCannDogs.com/Grade 1 or call us at 905-659-1888. Come out and watch classes anytime! We love spectators (please leave your dog at home).

Check back soon so you can see more of Ace! In a couple of weeks, we'll be showing you Ace's progress from week 1 through week 9 of the Grade 1 program.
